Just a quick FYI – I’ve decided to do a bit of spring cleaning before I relocate to new digs in May. Part of that process involves digging through a bunch of motorcycle and computer gear (along with a few pieces of home electronics I’m no longer using) and place selected pieces for auction on eBay.
Along with that, I’ve made an assessment of my own needs as a musician and composer. That, with the impending move to a new studio in Hollywood have led me to the conclusion that I don’t have room for the SmartAV Tango in my studio any longer. I’ve tried it as a solo unit (without the extension bay) and as a side car to my studio setup. Neither has worked out, at least in the context of having the keyboards and synthesizers where they are the more ergonomic for my composition setup. Plus, I’m to the point now where the composition gigs are more prevalent than sound design or mixing, so I had to make a hard choice – but it feels like the right one for me.
The Tango is still an amazing piece of gear. I hope to someday have mixing room separate from the one I use for playing/recording/composing, but that’s not today and won’t be tomorrow. When I do have a multi-room facility, the Tango will be centerpiece of the mixing desk – for sure. Until then, someone else is going to benefit from the monstrous opportunity to give my console a new home – and put it to further good use.
Update:
I have opted to keep and use the Tango in my new studio. See my recent post about it here.
